Factory worker dies after being struck by forklift

SHAH ALAM: A factory worker was killed after he was hit by a forklift driven by his co-worker, who was believed to have been operating the vehicle recklessly, at a factory in Banting, Kuala Langat, last Thursday.

Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said police received a MERS 999 call at about 4.04pm the same day alerting them to the fatal accident.

“Investigations showed that the accident occurred at about 3.14pm when the forklift, operated by a man, was travelling along lanes C1 and C2 inside the factory’s warehouse.

“As it approached the scene, another worker was checking container stock and moved into the centre of the lane.

“At the same time, the forklift continued moving forward and struck the victim,” he said in a statement.

The victim, in his 20s, was flung onto the road surface and suffered chest injuries, while the forklift driver, in his 30s, escaped unharmed.

Akmalrizal said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a Banting Hospital medical assistant.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless and dangerous driving.

“The forklift driver, a witness who saw the accident, and the victim’s next of kin have given their statements to the Kuala Langat Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.

“Members of the public with information on the incident can contact any nearby police station or the investigating officer, Inspector Nor Baiti Mustafa, at 03-31872222 or 014-5006072,” he added.
