Ex-treasury sec-gen Asri Hamidin appointed Energy Commission chairman


: Former Treasury secretary-general Datuk Seri Asri Hamidin @ Hamidon has been appointed as the Energy Commission chairman for a one-year term, effective Jan 1.

The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry said the appointment was made in accordance with Section 5 of the Energy Commission Act 2001 (Act 610), with the consent of the prime minister as the minister responsible for matters related to gas supply.

“The ministry extends its congratulations to Asri on his appointment as Energy Commission chairman,” it said in a statement today.

Asri, 59, is a graduate in economics from Hiroshima University, Japan, and holds a master’s degree in economics from Universiti Malaya.

He has 31 years of experience in the civil service and began his career as an assistant director at the Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister’s Department.

The ministry also extended its appreciation and thanks to Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar for his service during his tenure as chairman of the Energy Commission.
