KOTA BARU: Pas will contest the upcoming Sabah state election under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) banner, said party secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
Takiyuddin, who is also the PN Chief Whip in the Dewan Rakyat, said the party’s headquarters has instructed Sabah Pas to begin identifying qualified and suitable candidates.
“Although Pas has never won a seat in Sabah before, we remain optimistic and will do our best.
“Personally, if we manage to win even one seat, that would be enough to make us happy,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Batik Fun Run 2025 at Dataran Muhammadi here today.
He added that PN’s leadership is currently working on a strategic direction to strengthen the coalition and better understand the political landscape in Sabah, including the importance of ensuring cooperation among all component parties.
“As a coalition party, we believe now is the right time to reinforce collaboration among PN members.
“That’s why we won’t be contesting solo — it’s no longer relevant. A strong coalition is necessary to make a greater impact,” he said.
At the same time, he clarified that discussions on seat allocations among PN component parties for the Sabah polls are still ongoing, and no final decision has been made on the number of seats Pas will contest.
“The selection of candidates for the Sabah state election will ultimately be decided by Pas central leadership. The state level is only responsible for nominating suitable individuals. In this matter, grassroots input and views from the state level will be considered before a final decision is made,” he said.
