KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — A six-car KTM Komuter train overshot the end of the track at Butterworth station early this morning, prompting an investigation by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).
The incident occurred at about 6.01am and involved an empty train set operating on Platform 4 as part of KTMB’s daily service schedule.
No injuries or casualties were reported.
In a statement, KTMB said its technical team was dispatched to the site “immediately after the incident” to secure the area and remove the train.
“Work to move the train set is actively being carried out to ensure safety at the location and the smooth running of station operations,” the company said.
Passenger services at the northern hub remain unaffected, with trains continuing to operate through Platforms 1, 2 and 3.
Platform 4, however, has been temporarily closed for “repair works and safety inspections”.
KTMB added that it is conducting a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the overshoot.
“Updates will be provided from time to time,” it said, assuring commuters that “operational and passenger safety remains our top priority.”
The company also urged passengers using Butterworth station to follow safety instructions issued by station staff “to ensure smooth movement and the safety of all parties.”
