SHAH ALAM: The body of an elderly woman was found floating in a rainwater retention pond in Section U11, Bukit Bandaraya, here on Wednesday.
Shah Alam police chief, Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol, said police received information on the discovery at about 11.30am from members of the public who were fishing at the pond.
He said a team from the Shah Alam district police headquarters, together with forensic personnel from the Selangor police contingent headquarters, was dispatched to the scene to conduct examinations and retrieve the body.
“Initial investigations found that the victim was a local woman in her 70s and is believed to have been living in a housing area near the location of the incident.
“Further examination also found that the victim had been dead for more than 48 hours before she was discovered,” he said in a statement.
Ramsay said that at about 6pm on the same day, police were contacted by the victim’s family members, who informed officers that the woman was their sister and had been living alone in the nearby area.
He added that a post-mortem was conducted at 9am the following day at Shah Alam Hospital and was attended by family members for identification purposes.
“The victim’s identity was confirmed and the body was subsequently claimed by the family. The cause of death is pending a full laboratory report,” he said.
Ramsay said the case has been classified as a sudden death and that investigations are ongoing.
