KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry has ordered the immediate evacuation of the quarters building at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG), Gaya campus, following a landslide nearby.
The ministry said it was taking the landslide seriously and had taken proactive steps to ensure the safety of all those at the campus.
It said the landslide damaged a slope and several building blocks that had been closed and vacant since July following an order from the Sabah Public Works Department. No injuries were reported.
“Other immediate actions taken include demolishing the affected blocks for new construction, renting nearby off-campus premises to allow academic activities to continue, and rebuilding a damaged water tank,” it said in a statement today.
The ministry said it expressed its appreciation to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for his concern and a visit he made to the campus today.
