The education ministry will receive an allocation of RM66.2 billion next year, up from RM64.2 billion for 2025.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said from the total, nearly RM2 billion will be used to upgrade more than 520 dilapidated schools, especially in Sabah and Sarawak, as well as to repair and maintain all types of schools nationwide.
“This includes upgrading student facilities and teachers’ rooms, following the successful nationwide repair of toilets, canteens, and prayer spaces in a short period,” he said when tabling Budget 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, announced that a total of 38 new schools will be built to meet local needs.
“Additionally, SJKT Ladang Jeram in Pahang and SJKC Aik Hua in Perak will be completely rebuilt,” he said.
To ensure children from underprivileged families have access to education, he said the government has agreed to extend the school aid programme – currently limited to students up to Form Three – to include those up to Form Five, with an allocation of RM180 million.
