KOTA BARU: Eda Ezrin today took to TikTok to share her experiences spending nine months in Narathiwat Prison, garnering thousands of views.
In her posting, the singer said she and her friends were treated well, but she was heartbroken being kept away from her family, especially during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
The TikTok live posting by the 30-year-old mother of two had hit more than 26,000 views as of 5.30pm.
She started the live session by telling her fans about the room which she occupied since November, last year.
Eda Ezrin said she was placed in a large room with about 50 other inmates, including Thais, together with two of her friends.
“We were treated well by the prison management and were allowed to carry out various activities, including congregational prayers, singing and even putting on makeup.
“My two friends and I were not convicts but remand detainees, so we were not permitted to work.
“Our daily routine mostly involved singing, chatting and learning to recite the Quran,” she added.
Eda Ezrin, however, said the strict prison regulations had to be followed at all times by all inmates.
She described the most painful moments as being away from her loved ones.
“The hardest part was when I missed my children, husband and family, especially during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“At that time, I felt very sad and heartbroken, and all I could do was pray,” she said.
Nearly 3,000 fans who commented during the livestream expressed their support for Eda Ezrin encouraging her to stay strong.
In November 2024, Eda Ezrin, whose real name is Wan Norshaheeda Azlin Wan Ismail, her husband Mohd Affendi Ahmad, and four others were arrested in Sungai Golok in Narathiwat, Thailand.
The authorities seized 6,059 methamphetamine pills known as yaba during a hotel raid.
The group faced charges of possession with intent to distribute and drug consumption.
On March 6, this year, the Narathiwat Provincial Court acquitted Eda Ezrin and her co-defendants of the more serious drug possession charge.
They were, however, convicted for drug consumption.
The court imposed a six-month jail sentence and a fine of 4,000 Thai baht (about RM526) each.
But as they had already served over four months in detention and displayed good behaviour, the penalties were waived .
Despite the acquittal, Thai prosecutors pursued several appeals and were granted multiple extensions of detention — up to five times, extending from March until early last month.
On Aug 6, the appeals were dropped due to insufficient evidence, and Eda Ezrin, her husband and the others were released after more than nine months in custody.
