KINABATANGAN: Voter turnout for the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections reached 39.23 per cent and 38.45 per cent respectively as of noon today, the Election Commission (EC) said.
A total of 48,526 voters are eligible to cast their ballots for the parliamentary seat, while 10,703 are registered for the Lamag state seat.
Both by-elections were called following the death of Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on Dec 5.
In the parliamentary contest, Barisan Nasional (BN) is fielding Bung’s son, Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, in a three-cornered fight against Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman of Parti Warisan and independent candidate Goldam Hamid.
The contest for Lamag is a straight fight between BN‘s Mohd Ismail Ayob and Mazliwati Abdul Malek of Parti Warisan.
Polling for both seats is being held concurrently.
