TENOM: A prosecution witness in the sexual harassment case involving Ebit Erawan Ibrahim Lew, better known as Ebit Lew, told the Magistrate’s Court here today that the accused, Ebit, managed his own Instagram account.
Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) investigating officer Supt Noor Asyikin Shamsuri, 46, the prosecution’s 18th witness said that it was based on analysis conducted by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Based on the commission’s reply letter, the Instagram account in Ebit Lew’s name was managed or supervised by an individual named Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew, she said, adding that there was information about the accused, including a profile photo of him in a red robe, attached, while Google searches revealed the name of a company, Transform Training & Consultancy, believed to be related to the case.
“In addition, the MCMC report also showed Lew’s official Facebook page, which has the same phone number (with the search result),” she said when asked during her examination in chief by deputy public prosecutor Nor Azizah Mohamad in front of Magistrate Nur Asyraf Zolhani.
Deputy public prosecutors Analia Kamaruddin and Muhammad Hidayat Wahab are also part of the prosecution team, while Lew is represented by Datuk Ram Singh, Kamarudin Mohmad Chinki and Prabjit Singh Gill.
Noor Asyikin said the analysis report was received when the police submitted a request to the MCMC for an analysis of the accused’s social media accounts and phone numbers.
During the cross examination by Ram Singh, she also denied the existence of communication between the complainant and the accused on Instagram since 2018 because investigations showed that the complainant communicated with Lew using Whatsapp.
Ebit Lew, 38, faces 11 charges under Section 509 of the Penal Code, including outraging the modesty of a woman, in her 40s, by sending lewd messages and photos through Whatsapp between March and June 2021.
The trial will resume tomorrow.
