KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s world No. 10 Ng Eain Yow was stretched to the limit by American world No. 60 Shahjahan Khan in the second round of the US$58,750 Squash On The Fire tournament in Washington yesterday.
The Asian champion battled for 83 minutes before winning 11-8, 11-6, 4-11, 6-11, 13-11. It was Eain Yow’s third win against Shahjahan.
Second seed Eain Yow will face Egypt’s world No. 49 Karim El Hammmay in the quarter-finals. Karim beat compatriot Yahya Elnawasany 11-5, 11-7, 11-5.
Eain Yow had defeated Karim in the 2020 Qatar Classic first round.
In the women’s competition, world No. 20 Rachel Arnold beat England’s Alicia Mead 11-5, 11-6, 11-6 in the second round.
The Malaysian will meet Egypt’s world No. 49 Nadine Shahin for a place in the semi-finals. Rachel lost twice to Nadine in three previous meetings.
