KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry plans to review the establishment of a Health Service Commission, says its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

He said that this would ensure the commission has the proper jurisdiction to carry out appropriate reforms to address systemic problems in the public health sector.

“We will need time to determine exactly what sort of authority or jurisdictions the commission will have when it is set up,” he said during a press conference after launching the “Live, Laugh, Lungs” lung health awareness campaign here on Saturday (Sep 6).

Dzulkefly’s comments come after the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Health called for the deferment of the commission’s proposed establishment. It said that current plans for the commission would not effectively resolve all health sector challenges.
