KOTA KINABALU: A state civil servant and a pensioner have been arrested on suspicion of siphoning RM303,000 of foreign labour payments, which were never received by the workers.

The suspects, a woman and a man aged 40 and 60, were arrested for criminal breach of trust at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Lahad Datu at about noon Wednesday (Sept 3).

According to sources, two suspects were arrested when they turned up at the MACC office.

They were working at a government agency in Sabah between July 2020 to February 2021.

“The two suspects are believed to have misused eight sets of payment vouchers for foreign workers totalling about RM303,000, even though the foreign workers did not receive the payments,” the source said.

Sabah MACC director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, when contacted, confirmed the arrest.

He said that the case is being investigated under Section 409 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust by a public servant or agent.
