KUALA LUMPUR: A young man who had just returned from a date with his girlfriend was detained during the New Year Eve operation at Jalan Duta Toll Plaza here last night after testing positive for cannabis.
The 24-year-old, who works as a sales executive at a company, claimed he only used an electronic cigarette and had never taken drugs.
However, he tested positive for cannabis after undergoing an initial urine screening by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) during the operation.
“I only vape (electronic cigarette), sir. I have never taken cannabis, and I don’t even smoke tobacco.
“The flavours I usually buy are cheap… RM23,” he told reporters.
The young man admitted he had been using electronic cigarettes for two years and often changed the liquid flavours he bought.
The fifth child of six siblings said he was on his way home to Pantai Dalam when he was detained.
“I was previously detained about two months ago by AADK in Pantai Dalam. I was released but had to undergo urine screening twice,” he said.
In the same operation, a 32-year-old local man was also detained while driving with his wife, brother-in-law, and younger brother.
He said the family was on their way home to Sri Petaling.
Examination and urine tests confirmed that the man had tested positive for methamphetamine.
He also admitted that he rarely took drugs and only used them about once every two weeks.
“I bought a small packet for RM30, and the last time I used it was three days ago. I only did it because of friends,” he said.
He added that his family, including his wife, were unaware that he used drugs.
All individuals who tested positive for drugs were taken to the AADK Sentul office for further action.
The joint operation involved officers and personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Bukit Aman, Road Transport Department, AADK, Department of Environment and Plus Bhd.
