Drain cover crushes boy's hand during kitten rescue

KUALA LUMPUR: A 10-year-old boy nearly lost his fingers after a cement drain cover fell on his hand while he was rescuing a trapped kitten.

Muhammad Aiman Hazid Mohd Raffizi had been playing with his sister and a friend at their apartment building, the Padang Hiliran People’s Housing Project in Kuala Terengganu, last Wednesday when they heard the sound of a kitten coming from a nearby drain.

His mother, Syarifah Nurul Fatihah Sayed Saiful Amizat, 37, said Aiman managed to lift a large concrete slab to free the kitten but was injured when the cover slipped as he tried to put it back in place.

“My son, daughter and their friend heard a kitten crying from the drain. After rescuing it, Aiman tried to close the drain again, but the concrete cover slipped and landed on his fingers,” she said.

Aiman is currently receiving treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, where doctors are working to save his severely crushed fingers and prevent amputation.
