Dr Mahathir Mohamad has mocked Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Azam Baki over the latter’s remarks that the anti-graft agency is investigating assets purportedly owned by the former prime minister in the UK.
In a statement, Mahathir sarcastically told the country’s top graft buster to update him about the assets as he had no knowledge about their existence.
“Please let me know so that I can claim these assets. Once I get them, I will donate them to the poor,” he said.
The 100-year-old Mahathir further claimed that the investigation was politically motivated.
Two days ago, Azam told reporters that the investigation into Mahathir was ongoing, with the current focus on assets believed to be in the UK.
Azam said MACC has been in contact with the authorities in the UK over the assets allegedly owned by Mahathir.
In April 2024, Azam was reported as saying that Mahathir was among those being probed over an asset declaration issue.
