KUALA LUMPUR: Doxxing victims can lodge a police report or submit a complaint to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), unity government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said today.
He added that Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has already reminded the public to exercise caution regarding doxxing.
“The IGP has already urged the public to be careful about doxxing. If the so-called ‘hot tea’ harms others, the police will take action against those responsible. We need to act with moderation and restraint,” he said.
“However, for those who possess credible and verified information regarding abuses of power, we welcome and encourage them to channel such information to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC),” Fahmi told reporters after a town hall session with the Malaysian Association for the Blind here today.
He was responding to a question on the current ‘spill the tea’ trend on social media, which involves sharing and exposing information.
Fahmi also reiterated Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s message delivered yesterday that enforcement agencies must act decisively, emphasising that information submitted through the proper channels will be acted upon.
“Anyone with information should approach the authorities so that appropriate action can be taken. We understand that recent cases have involved corporate figures and politicians. When information reaches the authorities, it will be investigated and acted upon,” he said.
Fahmi said that justice requires allegations of abuse of power to be handled through due process, ensuring that accurate information is presented and, where evidence exists, brought before the courts.
