With a week left before Barisan Nasional announces its candidates for the Sabah state assembly elections, Umno has reminded its members not to sabotage those chosen to contest.
Umno election war room secretariat chief Ahmad Maslan said the candidate selection process is currently at the final stage, with a decision to be made after taking into account various views from Umno’s national and Sabah leaderships.
“Whoever is selected must be accepted. Don’t sabotage them as it would only cost the party in this state election,” Sinar Harian quoted him as saying at an event in Johor.
Ahmad, who is an Umno Supreme Council member, said it was not an easy task to be a party candidate as they would have to devote most of their lives towards serving the people, instead of themselves and their families.
“Once they are made candidates, they have to work hard to bring victory (for Umno). I wish all the best to those who are selected,” he added.
Ahmad also urged party members who were not chosen as candidates to remain loyal to Umno and work with BN candidates to ensure their victory.
“Please don’t sabotage the candidates and the party. Those not selected might get their opportunities come the 16th general election,” he added.
BN is expected to announce its candidate list a week before nomination day on Nov 15.
Earlier today, state BN chairman Bung Moktar Radin said the coalition will contest fewer seats than the 48 originally planned. However, he did not say how many seats BN will contest.
