PETALING JAYA:

has denied filing a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) against an apparent social media influencer who offered to do a thorough background check of the vice-president.

Responding to reports that the influencer, Aliff Ahmad, had been summoned by MCMC, said neither she nor her aides had filed a report against him.

“I do not know him, nor have I ever met him. I’m also not sure how he makes a living, but I definitely support all efforts (to earn an income) that abide by the law.

“What I can say for sure is that he should not be investigated just for making the challenge or statement involving me,” she said in a Facebook post.

The former Permatang Pauh MP however added that it was important for everyone to be careful about the statements they make, to avoid tarnishing the reputation or credibility of others without evidence.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that MCMC had summoned Aliff over a posting in which he said he would conduct a background check on Nurul Izzah using a system he co-founded.

He had asked what Nurul Izzah was working as, and how the daughter of Prime Minister Ibrahim was funding her political career.
