Domestic Trade Ministry tops list in MACC graft probe


KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched 87 corruption probes across several ministries between 2022 and Sept 26 this year, with the Domestic Trade Ministry topping the list.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said in a written parliamentary reply that the figures were based on information provided by the anti-graft agency.

Azalina was responding to Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN–Hulu Terengganu), who had asked about the number of corruption cases involving civil servants, with a breakdown of cases by ministry or agency over the past three years to date.

Topping the list was the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry with 14 investigation papers, followed by the Home Ministry with 11.

The Education and Finance ministries recorded eight each, the Prime Minister’s Department seven, and the Defence Ministry six.

The Rural and Regional Development Ministry recorded five investigation papers, while the Health and Higher Education ministries had four each.

The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, the Housing and Local Government Ministry, and the Human Resources Ministry recorded three each.

Meanwhile, the Economy Ministry, the Communications Ministry, and the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry each recorded two.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) also launched one investigation paper each involving the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry, the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry, the Transport Ministry, the Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Ministry, and the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry.

Ministries with no investigation papers were the Youth and Sports Ministry, the Digital Ministry, the Works Ministry, the Foreign Ministry, the National Unity Ministry, the Plantation and Commodities Ministry, the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, and the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry.
