KUALA LUMPUR: Noah Dettwiler’s team, CIP Green Power, has confirmed that the Moto3 rider will require multiple surgeries following his crash at the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia yesterday (Oct 26).
The team, in a statement released last night, said Noah is in “good hands” but requested the public to “respect his privacy”.
“This morning (yesterday), during the sighting lap at Sepang, our rider Noah Dettwiler was involved in a serious accident,” said the team.
“He was taken to the hospital in Kuala Lumpur and will need to undergo multiple surgeries.
“He is in good hands and we kindly ask you to respect his privacy. We will not be sharing further details at this time.
“Noah is a true fighter, and the entire CIP Green Power team is right behind him. We will keep you updated as soon as possible.”
Dettwiler, who appeared to be riding slowly, was struck from behind by Moto3 world champion Jose Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) before turn four.
The duo, who were both flung from their bikes, appeared to sustain serious injuries. They received treatment for roughly 20 minutes trackside before being airlifted to Hospital Kuala Lumpur by helicopter.
MotoGP issued a medical update yesterday, stating that Rueda “is awake and alert, with a suspected hand fracture and a number of contusions”.
The race, which was delayed for almost two hours, went on but was shortened from 15 laps to 10.
