PITAS, Oct 5 — Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji confirmed Pitas Assemblyman Dato’ Sri Dr Ruddy Awah as the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) candidate for the coming 17th State Election (PRN17).

He urged the people of Pitas to continue supporting GRS by rallying behind Ruddy.

“The State Assembly will soon be dissolved to pave the way for the upcoming polls. It is crucial for everyone to remain united to ensure GRS continues to hold the people’s mandate,” he said.

Hajiji also expressed appreciation to LPPB and the Ministry of Local Government and Housing for their commitment to development.

Ruddy expressed readiness and commitment to defend his seat, highlighting his preparation for the election and confidence in voter support.

“Actually I have been ready from the very beginning because I am the divisional chief, I am still the assemblyman, I am also a member of the Supreme Council, and the GRS Zone 1 coordinator.

“Previously, I won the seat as an independent with a majority of 559 votes. For the upcoming PRN, now under the GRS banner, I am confident of securing a majority of over 2,000 votes,” he said.

Ruddy also outlined key development plans for Pitas, highlighting the completion of 440 People’s Housing Programme (PPR) units and a RM13 million water treatment plant. He also confirmed progress on electrification, with 1,000 utility poles installed to serve areas still lacking power.

On disaster preparedness, Ruddy said a permanent evacuation centre with a capacity to accommodate 500 people will be ready next year to address floods, high tides, and strong waves. He stressed that these projects demonstrate GRS’s commitment to improving public services and quality of life in the district. — Daily Express
