Defending champs JDT handed tricky Malaysia Cup draw


KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) will start their Malaysia Cup defence against minnows Police in the first round, with the first leg kicking off on Jan 17.

Police will host the Southern Tigers in the first leg before the return leg at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.

Should JDT advance, they will face either Melaka or Sabah.

Meanwhile, A1 League (semi-pro) sides Perak and UM-Damansara United have will face former champions KL City and Terengganu respectively.

In the other half of the draw, 33-time champions will meet TRW in the first round with the winners facing Immigration or Negri Sembilan.

Kuching City will be up against Penang, while semi-pro side Red Warriors take on DPMM.

The tournament starts on Jan 17 and is expected to end in May.

The first round casualties will play in the Challenge Cup.
