KUALA LUMPUR: The Sepang Sessions Court will deliver its decision tomorrow on entrepreneur Datuk Seri Aliff Syukri Kamarzaman’s obscene video charges, his lawyer Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud confirmed.

The cosmetics entrepreneur was slapped with four charges of uploading obscene content with the intent to offend others three years ago.

In March, he was ordered to enter defence over the charges after Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman ruled that the prosecution had established a prima facie case.

On Oct 13 2022, Aliff, 38, pleaded not guilty to the four charges.

The charges fall under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or services and are punishable under Section 233(3) of the same Act.

If convicted, he faces a fine of up to RM50,000, a maximum jail term of one year, or both. Additionally, he may be fined RM1,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction.

Previously, the five-minute and 23-second Raya music video performed by Aliff Syukri was criticised by netizens for allegedly tarnishing the spirit of Aidilfitri with its excessive portrayal of effeminate male dancers.

The offences were allegedly committed on April 13, 15, 17, and 21, 2022 and were detected at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) office in Cyberjaya on Apr 24, 2022.
