DBKL hauls up nine traders for obstructing sidewalks

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) seized items belonging to nine traders for obstructing public spaces and operating without valid licences in Desa Melawati and Desa Setapak, Wangsa Maju today.

The operation, part of DBKL’s ongoing special operation against unlicensed foreign traders and obstruction of public spaces, targeted food and beverage outlets misusing pedestrian walkways and sidewalks.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, DBKL said checks during the operation revealed several eateries placing chairs, tables and other business equipment along five-foot ways and pedestrian paths.

“Many of these premises were also found to be operating without valid licences and were run by foreigners.

“Enforcement officers seized and removed equipment used to obstruct public spaces during the inspection,” it said in the post.

DBKL added that similar action was also taken against outlets operated by foreigners found violating trading laws and regulations.

It said said operations of this nature would continue and be intensified to ensure compliance and public safety.

DBKL also encouraged members of the public to lodge complaints if they came across any illegal traders or businesses flouting the law via the DBKL AduKL portal at https://adukl.dbkl.gov.my.
