KUALA LUMPUR:

DAP has expressed its readiness to lead other ministries should Prime Minister Ibrahim reshuffle his Cabinet again.

DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo, however, declined to comment further, saying it is ‘s prerogative on how he wants to shape his Cabinet.

“That’s under his authority, so it’s up to him to decide. If there is a Cabinet reshuffle, let’s leave it to him to announce.

“We are always prepared. It’s up to the prime minister’s wisdom. He will make the final decision on who is best to lead each portfolio,” he said after officiating the Federal Territories DAP convention today.

Gobind is digital minister in Anwar’s Cabinet, a post he was appointed to in December 2023.

The party has four other Cabinet members – secretary-general Loke Siew Fook (transport), Nga Kor Ming (housing and local government), Hannah Yeoh (youth and sports) and Steven Sim (human resources).

A Cabinet shake-up is imminent following Upko president Ewon Benedick’s resignation as entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister, and with investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz’s final term as senator ending next month.

The Cabinet already has two vacant posts after the resignations of economy minister Rafizi Ramli, and natural resources and environment sustainability minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad in May.

Their duties are being handled by finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan, and plantation and commodities minister Johari Ghani, respectively.

Anwar has remained tight-lipped on speculation of a Cabinet shake-up.

Separately, Gobind said DAP is prepared to face an early 16th general election as it has been hard at work on the ground and in the government.

He said the outcome of the 17th Sabah state election will be a signal of the people’s acceptance of the unity government.
