KUALA LUMPUR: Moto3 rider Hakim Danish Ramli will start from the sixth row in tomorrow’s race after qualifying 17th at the Grand Prix of Portugal today (Nov 8).
Danish, racing for Frinsa-MT Helmets-MSI, clocked one minute and 47.817s (+1.053s) in Portimao, known for its undulating, almost roller coaster-like track.
The Terengganu-born had gone straight to Q2 after clocking 1:47.899s (+0.843s) for 12th in yesterday’s practice.
Levelup-MTA’s Joel Kelso took pole position after clocking 1:46.764s in qualifying with CIP Green Power’s Scott Ogden (+0.069s) a close second.
Danish’s teammate Angel Piqueras (+0.163s) completed the front row.
MSI had roped in Danish as a replacement rider for the injured Ryusei Yamanaka, who recently underwent surgery on his left pinky finger.
Danish will also compete at the season-ending round in Valencia (Nov 14-16).
He will compete as a full season rider in Moto3 next season, replacing Piqueras in the squad. The latter is moving up to Moto2 next year.
