KUCHING: A 12-year-old boy died after being attacked by a crocodile while he was fishing in Sungai Kampung Empila in Samarahan this morning.
Arif Fahmi Aiman Mohd Tinggal was reportedly dragged into the river by the reptile while alone in his boat around 7.30am.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the department received a call at 7.53am and a team of eight firefighters was sent to the scene.
“A witness who was also fishing some 10m away saw the boy casting his net from his boat,” the spokesman said in a statement today.
“The man then heard the victim scream, and when he looked in that direction, the victim was no longer in sight.”
He added that the man immediately went to the area where the victim disappeared and called emergency services.
The boy’s body, which had bite marks on the body and chest, was found about 10m from where he was last seen.
Meanwhile, a search and rescue operation is still ongoing for a 32-year-old man who is believed to have been attacked by a crocodile while prawning in a river near Kampung Lubok Punggor, also in Samarahan, on Monday afternoon.
Ahmad Alzadkhri Sudin went out with his family on Monday morning before he was reported to have been attacked at 4pm that day.
