PETALING JAYA:

The Malaysian Cricket Association is seeking a declaration that five of its members are no longer executive committee members and cannot act as such.

In a letter sighted by FMT, its acting president, Ahmad Feisal Ahmad Tajuddin, called it a “regrettable but necessary decision”, accusing former president Iqbal Ali and the other former committee members of meddling in the association’s affairs despite their public resignations.

Feisal claimed that the meddling included Iqbal saying the association’s annual general meeting (AGM) set for tomorrow has been adjourned.

In addition to Iqbal, he named Dr Arun Kumar, Amarjeet Singh, Mahnorizal Mahat and Ahmad Salman Othman as the former committee members.

About two weeks ago, Iqbal, his deputy Arun and seven other executive committee members resigned during an emergency general meeting in protest against a claimed coup.

FMT previously reported on the leadership crisis in the association, as Iqbal withdrew his resignation as president and called for the association’s elections on April 27 to be put on hold.

Iqbal said there was currently an environment of fear, bullying and intimidation in the association, “perpetrated by those who had orchestrated the attempt to usurp the legitimate process of a proper election”.

He said he was not seeking re-election even though he had been nominated for the president’s post.

“I have also withdrawn my resignation and will continue in my role as president for the remainder of the current term,” he said.

In the letter, Feisal said the AGM will take place as per the time and place previously scheduled.

“The executive committee will give further updates on the status of the suit (against the five) at the AGM,” he said.
