KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court today ordered the removal of 33 false and offensive contents and immediate shut down of two Telegram channels, Edisi Siasat and Edisi Khas by the end of today.
This ruling follows the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) winning a judgment in default (JID) against the channels’ administrators, whose identities remain unknown.
The judgment was granted after the administrators failed to enter an appearance and file a defence in the civil suit.
A JID is a court ruling favouring one party due to the opposing party’s failure to respond or appear in court, effectively allowing the plaintiff to win by default.
MCMC’s lawyer Wong Guo Jin said judge Mahazan Mat Taib granted the JID application against the first and second defendants, which are the administrators of Edisi Siasat and Edisi Khas channels, filed on Sept 25 this year.
