PORT DICKSON: Police have obtained a second order from the Magistrate’s court here to remand a 46-year-old man whose two children drowned in an incident here for a further five days.

State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the man will remain under police custody until Sept 16.

He said the remand for a 41-year-old woman believed to be the man’s lover has also been extended for four days until Sept 15.

The remand orders were signed by magistrate Mohd Farez Rahman.

The two young siblings drowned in the incident last Thursday (Sept 4) when the car they were in, which was parked next to a river in Tanjung Agas near here, started moving and plunged into Sg Linggi.

The victims, an eight-year-old girl and her six-year-old brother, were resting in the car with the couple just before the incident.

Based on the police’s preliminary probe, the man got out of the parked car to have a cigarette when it suddenly began rolling towards the river.

The car engine was switched off at the time of the incident.

Passersby managed to save the woman, but the children were trapped in the vehicle.

The case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

A background check on the 46-year-old male suspect revealed he had 16 previous cases and is on the wanted list for four offences.

The car involved had also been reported stolen in Johor in 2022.
