KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who faces multiple corruption charges, was granted permission to travel overseas to visit his sick sister-in-law in Australia.
Sessions Court Judge Azura Alwi made the decision after granting the Bersatu president’s application to temporarily obtain the document today until May 20.
Deputy public prosecutor Noralis Mat did not object to the application.
The passport is currently held by the court as part of his bail conditions after he was charged with offences related to the Jana Wibawa Project and accepting proceeds from illegal activities.
Muhyiddin, 77, as the then prime minister and Bersatu’s president, faces four charges of using his position to receive bribes amounting to RM232.5 million related to the Jana Wibawa Project from three companies—Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd, and Mamfor Sdn Bhd—along with Datuk Azman Yusoff, for the party.
He also faces two charges of receiving illicit funds amounting to RM195 million from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, which were deposited into Bersatu’s CIMB Bank account.
Muhyiddin was also charged in the Shah Alam Sessions Court on March 13, 2023, for receiving illicit funds totalling RM5 million, and the case was transferred to the Sessions Court here for joint trial.
