
KOTA TINGGI: A couple died while their six-month-old baby girl was injured in an accident after their vehicle collided with a palm oil truck here.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the incident happened at about 1.30pm on Sunday (Nov 16) at KM54.5 of the Sungai Rengit–Kota Tinggi road.
“The incident is believed to have occurred when the car, driven by a 24-year-old man, lost control and veered into the opposite lane before crashing into an empty palm oil truck.
“The collision caused the man and his 28-year-old wife to suffer severe head injuries, and they died at the scene.
“Their baby also sustained head injuries and is being treated at Hospital Kota Tinggi,” he said in a statement.
He added that debris from the collision also struck another car.
“The drivers of the other car and the truck, aged 46 and 47 respectively, did not sustain any injuries,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated case in Tangkak, a 57-year-old woman was killed after the car she was in was hit by a van.
Tangkak OCPD Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said the incident happened at KM33.5 Jalan Muar–Segamat at 2.20am on Sunday.
“A van had veered into the opposite lane before crashing into three cars and a four-wheel drive.
“The deceased was a back-seat passenger in one of the cars.
“Five other drivers and passengers sustained minor injuries and were taken to Tangkak Hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
