KAJANG: A married couple were injured when they were rammed by a car after they fell from their motorcycle when hit by another car which had run a red light.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the incident in Persiaran Kemajuan occurred about 11.20am three days ago.

“The incident occurred when a black coloured Honda car from the opposite direction ran a red light, turning right into the path of the motorcycle the couple were riding.

“This caused the couple to fall off the machine and they were then hit by a Perodua Myvi which was headed the same way as them,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Naazron said the couple, both of whom are aged 26, were sent to the Sungai Long Specialist Hospital and Serdang Hospital for treatment.

He said the driver of the Honda, a 59-year-old woman, was questioned and claimed to have been confused.

He said she claimed she thought the traffic lights for vehicles going both straight and making a right turn had changed to green.

“The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act for careless and inconsiderate driving which carries a fine of up to RM10,000 with a possible jail term not exceeding 12 months.”

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact Sergeant Nur Izzatul Aira Ariffin at 017-2737696.
