SHAH ALAM: Police have detained a couple for allegedly abusing and trafficking their Indonesian domestic worker in Serdang, including scalding her with hot water and causing serious injuries.

Serdang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad said a 59-year-old woman was arrested around 1am on Oct 20, followed by the arrest of her 59-year-old husband on Oct 23.

“The arrests were made after a report was lodged by a 37-year-old man who received a WhatsApp message from his sister informing him that something had happened at their family home,” he said.

Investigations revealed that the victim, a 47-year-old Indonesian woman, had been subjected to repeated abuse, including having hot water poured into her mouth, being pinched on her breast until it became infected, scalded on her legs, and kicked in the mouth, causing broken teeth.
