
A couple accused of khalwat have been forced to languish in jail after reportedly failing to raise the bail set by the shariah court in Kuantan today.
Azlan Hamzah @ Husaini, 43, and his partner Susilawati, 31, an Indonesian national, were charged with being together in seclusion in a hotel room in Jalan Wong Ah Jang, Kuantan, at 3.50am today, Harian Metro reported.
They were granted bail of RM1,500 each with one surety after pleading not guilty, but failed to pay the bail. Azlan was sent to Penor prison and Susilawati to Bentong prison pending mention of the case on Sept 25.
Conviction carries a maximum sentence of two years’ jail or a fine of up to RM3,000 or both.
Another couple charged with khalwat in the same court pleaded guilty to being in seclusion at a hotel in Jalan Datuk Lim Hoe Lek at 4.25am today.
Sabri Jusoh, 38, was fined RM1,500 and Indonesian citizen Yosi Rahmatika, 35, fined RM2,000. They paid the fine.
