Police are probing a car crash, captured in a viral video, which occurred at Km13.4 Jalan Genting Highlands in Bentong, Pahang.
Bentong police chief Zaiham Kahar said preliminary investigations found the incident happened on Oct 5 at around 12.30am, when the driver lost control of the car, causing it to veer off the road and hit the divider.
“The driver, a 24-year-old man, was unharmed but his vehicle was severely damaged,” he said in a statement.
Zaiham said an investigation paper had been opened under the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for negligence or reckless driving.
He urged those who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
Zaiham also said the driver involved had been contacted to cooperate with the investigation.
“Bentong police will also take strict action and conduct enforcement action to ensure that the location and roads in question are not used as racing circuits by reckless drivers or riders who ignore traffic laws and regulations,” he said.
A 29-second video of the incident showed a black vehicle speeding and weaving through traffic before the driver lost control and crashed into the divider.
