KOTA TINGGI: Police have opened an investigation paper into a viral video where children are seen sticking their heads out of a moving car near the Kota Tinggi Museum.

The video went viral on social media yesterday.

Kota Tinggi police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said the Criminal Investigation Department detected the video, which was uploaded by an X user about 1.50pm.

“The footage shows a black Perodua Bezza being driven in the area, with two children visibly leaning out of the window.

“An investigation is being carried out under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. If convicted, the offender may face imprisonment of up to 20 years, a fine not exceeding RM50,000, or both,” he said in a statement.

The 49-second video that went viral on social media showed the vehicle in motion on the road, with two young children sticking their heads out of the rear window behind the driver’s seat.

The video also indicated the vehicle was travelling at a speed of about 85kph, and the person recording the footage honked, but no action was taken.

The individual who recorded the video also verbally warned the driver, who responded by saying that his wife was looking after the two young children in the rear passenger seat.

Yusof urged those with information on the incident to come forward to assist investigations.

They can contact investigating officer Inspector Mohd Zakaria Ab Wahab at 012-9751290 or the Kota Tinggi police headquarters hotline at 07-8831222.
