PETALING JAYA:

Police are investigating three viral videos on TikTok for allegedly containing elements of incitement, sedition and hostility, and imitating royal ceremonial traditions.

Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar said the investigations are being carried out by the federal classified criminal investigation unit.

He said the first case involved a former civil servant who made comments allegedly insulting the government and its leaders.

“The second case involved a man who uploaded a post questioning the government’s handling of the recent incident in Kampung Sungai Baru (where police assisted in executing a court order to demolish houses), which could incite hostility between groups in the country.

“The third case involved a viral video clip depicting a family dressed entirely in yellow and wearing traditional headgear resembling royal family ceremonial attire during an aqiqah ceremony (celebrating the birth of a child),” he said.

Kumar said all three cases involved the misuse of social media that could cause insult and hostility among the public and had a seditious tendency.

“A thorough investigation will be carried out and strict action will be taken against those involved.

“The public is advised to be careful and responsible in making any statements or content in public spaces and social media,” he added.
