ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly injuring a Nepalese security guard with a brick.
Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the 44-year-old Nepalese victim lodged a police report of the incident at 2.59pm on Sunday (Aug 31).
“The victim, who works at an apartment in Gelang Patah, was on duty when a motorcyclist tried to enter the visitor’s lane without an access card.
“The victim stopped the suspect, who then became angry and picked up a brick to strike the guard on his head,” he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 1).
Acting on information, police arrested the 37-year-old suspect at 12.01am the next day.
He said the suspect had no prior criminal record and tested negative for drugs.
“The suspect has been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to Sept 4 for further investigation,” he said.
ACP Kumarasan said the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon or object.
If convicted, the offence carries up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, caning or any two of these punishments.
In a separate case, ACP Kumarasan said a 33-year-old man was arrested for apparently stealing a television at a supermarket in Mutiara Rini.
He said a 50-year-old male security supervisor reported the incident on July 27, which led to the arrest of the suspect in Tampoi on Sept 1.
“Checks revealed he had 10 previous criminal and drug-related records but tested negative for drugs,” he said, adding that the suspect’s sling bag was also seized.
The suspect is also being remanded until Sept 4 for investigation under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building, which carries up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine if convicted.
