PETALING JAYA:

Police have nabbed five men to assist in an investigation into the death of a security guard attacked with a sharp weapon following a fight in Semenyih yesterday morning.

Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said prior to being attacked, the security guard had an argument with a friend, a 37-year-old local lorry driver, while drinking alcohol with four others, Bernama reported.

“During the argument at a field in a Semenyih housing estate, the lorry driver sustained an injury to his finger after being struck with a sharp weapon. All five men then left the scene.

“At about 4.30am, the lorry driver and his friends, still angry over the earlier altercation, went to the 38-year-old security guard’s residence at a row of shophouses in Semenyih.

“There, one of the men attacked the guard with a sharp weapon, inflicting injuries to his hands and body,” he was quoted as saying.

Naazron said the victim was rushed to Kajang Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards, and an autopsy would be conducted today to determine the cause of death.

He said police would obtain an order to remand the five men, aged 31 to 37, to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Naazron said initial investigations found that four of the suspects had a criminal record for several cases, including drug offences.

He urged members of the public with information on the case to contact investigating officer Ong Eng Yew at 012-696-6849 or go to any nearby police station.
