KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismissed false rumours circulating on Facebook regarding the race of the woman who was arrested after storming the stage during the state-level National Day celebration in Perak.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the individual apprehended was in fact a 41-year-old local woman.
“Urine tests were also conducted on the suspect, and the results came back negative,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 31).
Comm Kumar said investigations are being conducted under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt, which is an offence which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a possible fine and Section 511 of the Penal Code for attempting to commit such an offence.
Meanwhile, the spread of the false claims is being probed under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for making statements likely to cause public fear or alarm, which is punishable with up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
“It is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities, which carries a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both upon conviction.
“The police will not compromise in taking stern action against any party found to be deliberately creating or spreading false information that causes public alarm and disrupts harmony,” he said.
