Police have arrested a 23-year-old woman believed to have made “seditious remarks” about state governor Musa Aman during the “Justice For Zara” rally in Tawau, Sabah.
Utusan Malaysia reported Tawau police chief Jasmin Hussin as saying the suspect was detained at about 12.30pm today.
He said an investigation paper was opened after police received three reports concerning the woman’s remarks against Musa during her speech at the rally on Sunday.
“Police will not compromise with any individual who stirs public unrest, especially in speeches.
“I would like to advise the public to be more cautious and refrain from making statements that could disturb public order or touch on sensitive issues,” he said in a statement.
Public protests have been held since July over the death of Sabahan schoolgirl Zara Qairina Mahathir who was found unconscious at 4am on July 16 after allegedly falling from the third floor of her school’s hostel in Papar. She died in hospital in Kota Kinabalu the following day.
A coroner’s inquiry into her death is to be held over 18 days from tomorrow.
