NILAI: Police have detained a woman who is also a disabled person card holder for allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old boy near here.
The suspect, who is in her 30s, had also allegedly threatened to kill the boy in the incident that occurred at a grocery store in Mantin on Tuesday (July 15).
Nilai police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said the alleged incident was captured by the store’s CCTV system.
“We received a report from the victim’s mother around 3.30pm on July 15 claiming that her son had been beaten and threatened by the suspect, who was known to her.
“We detained the suspect a few hours later and seized several items believed to be related to the case,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Supt Abdul Malik said investigations indicated that the alleged incident happened around 12.30pm when the victim was buying drinks at the store.
“The boy was suddenly attacked by the suspect, who kicked and stomped on the victim’s face and legs.
“The suspect is also alleged to have made death threats against the victim, and a customer at the store had witnessed the incident,” he said.
He said investigations also found that the suspect may have been suffering from mental health problems.
“The suspect was allegedly hallucinating during the incident and suspected the victim of shoplifting, although there was no evidence to suggest so,” he said.
The victim, he said, sought treatment at the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Seremban for a swollen nose and bruises on several parts of his legs.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 506 for criminal intimidation.
Supt Abdul Malik said police have obtained an order to remand the suspect for four days until July 19 to assist in investigations.
