SHAH ALAM: The police have yet to request Interpol’s assistance in issuing a red notice for the founder of the eHati marital programme and her husband, who have fled abroad.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said authorities have already identified the country the duo fled to.
“At this stage, we are working with our counterparts (in that country) to track both of them down; thus, we have yet to ask for Interpol’s assistance (in issuing a red notice),” he told reporters on Thursday (Nov 27).
He added that the overseas authority has been very cooperative in efforts to track the duo down.
Comm Shazeli said the Selangor Islamic Religious Department has also contacted the police regarding the arrest warrant issued by the Syariah High Court.
On Wednesday (Nov 26), the Syariah High Court issued an arrest warrant for the founder of the controversial programme, Nur Diyanah Md Tahir, and counsellor Zatul Asmah Mat Isa after they failed to appear in court to face charges under the Selangor Syariah Criminal Enactment 1995.
The court also instructed the authorities to conduct an immigration check on Nur Diyanah, whose address is in Damansara, and authorised the Islamic Religious Department to detain the counsellor, who is a local authority officer living in Nibong Tebal, Penang.
The judge subsequently set March 5 of next year for the next case mention.
Earlier during the proceedings, a friend of the eHati founder, who had stood as her guarantor, was called to explain the woman’s absence from court.
According to her, she agreed to be the guarantor out of compassion, as the accused’s own family did not come forward to help.
“I have been friends with her since 2021, but I have never been to her home,” said the woman, who is a doctor.
On Nov 14, it was reported that the founder of the eHati marital programme and her husband, both facing prosecution, were believed to have fled abroad.
Comm Shazeli had said both individuals were believed to have left the country on Oct 13, one day before charges were brought against them.
He confirmed that arrest warrants were issued after the eHati founder and her counsellor failed to appear in court to face their charges.
