PETALING JAYA:

Police have arrested Bersatu leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, following the circulation of a TikTok video allegedly showing him delivering a speech with seditious elements and making baseless claims about the royal institution.

Bukit Aman’s criminal investigation department director M Kumar said the 47-year-old was detained at 10.25pm yesterday and will be remanded today to assist in the investigation.

He said this comes after police detected a Sept 4 social media posting on TikTok, which had gone viral, showing Badrul delivering the speech.

In a statement this morning, Kumar said that In an excerpt of the video, Badrul was heard making remarks about the Malay rulers and an alleged attempt by certain quarters to erode respect for the monarchy.

“The probe regarding this viral video is being carried out by Bukit Aman CID’s Classified Crimes Investigation Unit,” he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 for making seditious statements, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for spreading statements likely to cause public alarm, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network services.
