
KOTA BHARU: A man with the title ‘Datuk’ suspected of being involved in a smuggling syndicate which siphoned off 11,050kg of subsidised cooking oil has been remanded for three days starting on Monday (Sept 29).
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid after allowing a police application to allow further investigation into the 28-year-old suspect under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
The suspect is being investigated for illegal possession of controlled goods, including subsidised cooking oil.
Earlier, the man, who was wearing purple police lockup attire, arrived at the Kota Bharu Magistrate’s Court at 9.32am.
Last Friday (Sept 26), Bernama reported that two enforcement officers were among eight individuals arrested on suspicion of organising ‘counter setting’ activities for a syndicate that embezzled 11,050kg of subsidised cooking oil in Pasir Mas.
The operation was carried out by the Kelantan Ministry of Domestic Trade (KPDN) in collaboration with Region Three Marine Police Force. – Bernama
