KOTA BARU: A construction worker was killed while another was injured after a concrete wall collapsed at a construction site at the new extension of Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Pengkalan Chepa today.

A Kota Baru Fire and Rescue station spokesman said a team was deployed to the scene after being alerted to the incident at 4.45pm.

“A team from the Pengkalan Chepa Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit, was dispatched to the scene and arrived at about 5.07pm.

“Upon arrival, the operations commander conducted an initial assessment and confirmed that the incident involved two adult local male workers.

“One victim sustained a leg fracture, while the other was found unconscious,” the spokesman said.

He added that Health Ministry ambulance personnel, who were already at the scene, later confirmed that the unconscious victim, aged 22, had died.

“The injured worker was given initial treatment at the scene before being handed over to medical personnel for further care,” the spokesman said.
