KUALA LUMPUR: Condolences have been pouring in following the death of Sabah chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who passed away at 1.46am today at a private hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki extended his condolences to the family, offering prayers for the late Kinabatangan member of parliament.

“Condolences to the entire family of the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who passed away at 1.46am today. From Allah we come and to Him we return. May Allah forgive his sins, grant him mercy, protect him and pardon his mistakes,” he posted on Facebook.

News of Bung’s death was announced earlier today by his son, Naim Kurniawan Moktar, in a Facebook post, which quickly drew an outpouring of sympathy from the public.

“Condolences, bro,” Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali wrote in response.

Bung’s wife, Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad, also mourned her husband in a series of Instagram Stories. She reflected on the side of the veteran politician that many had never seen.

“They may not know his heart, but I do.

“For 16 years, I’ve seen his kindness, his generosity, his selfless love for people. Please keep him in your prayers,” she wrote.

Bung, who also served as Sabah liaison committee chairman, had been warded in the intensive care unit since yesterday afternoon.

He recently retained the Lamag state seat in the 17th Sabah state election, which concluded on Nov 29, winning by a slim majority of 153 votes in a six-cornered contest.
