PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is coming up with plans to strengthen the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) through close cooperation and intelligence sharing.
The move followed a discussion between the leaders of both agencies recently.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki told the New Sunday Times that they discussed various issues during MCBA director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain’s recent courtesy call.
“We discussed how our agencies can collaborate to strengthen MCBA’s role in ensuring border security.
“For one, our agencies will share intelligence, including on syndicate activities and allegations of rogue personnel.”
Azam said they also decided that if MCBA conducts operations where there are elements of corruption, MACC will join them to facilitate investigations.
“We decided that MACC will help boost MCBA personnel through training in investigation techniques and collecting intelligence. The training will encompass instilling integrity in these personnel in carrying out their duties.”
He said many were aware of the various syndicates operating at the country’s entry and exit points, which had been revealed previously, including counter-setting and phantom travel.
“Our collaboration is also meant to help ensure that such syndicates are eradicated.
“We do not want such activities tarnishing our country’s image and threatening its security.”
